Rutgers Speaks: Understanding and Supporting Linguistic and Cultural Diversity @ Rutgers
Friday, March 1, 2024, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
1 Spring Street, SPR-320, New Brunswick, NJ 08901
Promoting linguistic and cultural diversity in higher education is essential for fostering a global perspective, enriching learning experiences, and preparing students in higher education for an interconnected world. Embracing a variety of languages and cultures enhances the academic environment, encouraging mutual respect and understanding among students and faculty. By fostering inclusivity, institutions empower students to thrive academically and personally, contributing to a globalized society that appreciates and learns from the tapestry of cultural and linguistic diversity.
The Language Center (TLC) invites you to the upcoming TLC Presents... Event on linguistic and cultural diversity at Rutgers sponsored by the Language Engagement Project (LEP).

Brazilian Rhythm and Percussion Experience!
On Friday, February 2, 2024, the Portuguese Program of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese welcomed musician Fernando Saci to lead us in a Brazilian rhythm and percussion experience as part of the Year of Languages focus on Languages of the Arts. A diverse group of people gather with Professor Daniel da Silva and Professor Daiane Tamanaha - from undergraduates to graduate students, faculty from the School of Arts and Sciences and Mason Gross, and even some young language and arts lovers, helped us make beautiful sounds. We sang in Portuguese, danced arm in arm, and played different Brazilian rhythms including the telltale beats of samba. Afterwards, we had some Brazilian foods and drink, and can't wait for our next get together. Check out our video recaps here. In the coming months, look out for Music of the Chinese Diaspora in the Americas, Global Hip Hop and Black Diaspora, and a Portuguese language Film screening, coming soon! #YOLanguagesOfTheArts
