Spring 2023 Call for Submissions: Year of Languages Video Challenge

 

Competition open: January 30 – February 17, 2023

How does learning another language contribute to your ways of thinking, your worldview, your attitude toward others, your career growth, or your self-awareness? What does learning another language mean to you?

What does learning a language allow you to know?

Competition: The Division of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences invites all Rutgers students to participate in the Year of Languages Video Challenge. Submit a link to a video created and shared publicly on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube about what you value about learning and knowing world languages. Videos can be created individually or collaboratively with other Rutgers students and should be submitted to one of the two following categories:

  1. videos up to 30 seconds or
  2. videos between 30 seconds and two minutes.

Eligibility: All Rutgers students who engage with one or more world languages.

The Video Challenge is part of the Year of Languages initiative, sponsored by the Division of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences. Winners of the competition will be awarded the Year of Languages Video Challenge Prize. There will be three winners and three honorable mentions in each category.

The Video Challenge competition is open for submissions from January 30 to February 17, 2023.

The Faculty Selection Committee, which will be appointed by the Dean of Humanities, will choose three winners and three honorable mentions in each competition category by March 10, 2023. Winning entries will receive a $100 cash prize. All winners and honorable mentions are eligible to have their videos and photos displayed on posters and video screens around campus, the Year of Languages website, and Year of Languages and Rutgers social media feeds. Winners and honorable mentions may be asked to make updates to submitted videos and will be given assistance to finalize the videos for publishing on Rutgers sites. They will also be honored at the Year of Languages celebration on Voorhees Mall in April 2023.
