  • Essay in English: Learning languages opens my eyes to the world’s beauty. The more I learn Russian, the more I appreciate the nuances of verbs’ prefixes which describe the world with vivid colours. The more I learn Mandarin, the more I appreciate how even the few characters in four-letter chengyu (idioms) contain much wisdom about the world. The more I learn Ukrainian, the more I appreciate the melodious sounds of words and phrases. The more I learn French, the more I appreciate the fluidness of grammar and language structure. The more I improve my English, the more I appreciate the multitude of languages that influenced the development of English, from Ancient Greek and Latin to French and German. All my languages have taught me about the world, whether it be through the words of the languages or the cultures and peoples associated with the languages. THIS is why I truly love learning languages.
