I chose Russian on a whim, prodded by the knowledge that sometime long ago some great grandparents on my mother’s side had lived in the Russian empire. Having been warned that the class would be difficult, I remained overconfident in my abilities. I was quickly humbled, and subsequently enchanted, by how complex, how mechanical a language could be. Later on, my fascination with Russian grammar and morphology only grew as I took second-year Russian. I discovered that the mechanics of Russian allow for the creation of ingenious poetry. Viktor Tsoi’s haunting lyrics and the dialogue of Andrei Rublev were similarly seductive, so much so that I would dedicate my free time to deciphering their speech until I could appreciate it fully. In short, I learn Russian for the simple fact that throughout the course of my study, I have only collected more reasons for doing so.

Я выбрал изучать русскый язык без долгой мысля, ну немного потому что родители дедушки иммигрировали из Российской Империи. Люди попытались советовать мне чтобы не записаться на курс по русскому языку, из-за трудности языка; но я оставался самоуверенным. Я быстро стал скромным, и потом очарованным. Я не узнал, что язык может быть таким сложным, таким механическим. Моя любовь русского языка росла, после того как я записался на русскый второго курса. Грамматика русского языка открывает дверь возможность создать прекрасное стихотворение. Слова изо рта Виктора Цоя и диалог из Андрея Рублёва также очаровали меня. Я изучаю русскый язык потому что, в течение обучения моего, я просто собрал все больше и больше причин изучения русского языка.
